(Praveen Kakkar): There is still more than a fortnight left for the monsoon to arrive. At present we are struggling with heat and water crisis, but intelligent people are the ones who prepare for the future in time. Therefore, at this time, digging of ponds and water management work is done on a large scale. Water conservation efforts can reach the goal only through collective initiative. Water harvesting is the most popular and effective method for this purpose. This small initiative of ours can save future generations from the dire situation of water crisis.
The history of rainwater harvesting is quite old. In the archaeological excavations conducted in Petra, Jordan, included in the World Heritage, such cisterns built in the seventh century BC were discovered which were used to collect rainwater. Similarly, in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka, a rock catchment system was built to collect rain water. This system was created in 425 BC. This has also been included in the world heritage. Evidence of collecting rain water 4500 years ago in the Thar region of Rajasthan state in India was found during the excavations done in Harappa.
